In the center of the Roan Valley lies the Raven Wood, so named for the abundance of ravens that have always found a home in the wood. The forest was once populated by an abundance of forest creatures of all types and was a forest-lover’s dream. The woods were as peaceful as they were beautiful and the Raven Wood provided more than enough food, both in terms of fruit and game, for the communities erected in and around it. About a hundred years ago; however, the forest began to mutate. The trees became twisted, the flowers became blackened reflections of themselves and even the forest creatures either mutated or simply vanished. The Mutation as it was called spread slowly, but steadily, eventually causing most of the game in the forest to disappear.
The forest used to be the home of a large settlement of Eladrin and Elves, but the city was abandoned when the Mutation took root. During the height of the fey city’s power, the forest housed a well-known crossing into the Feywild. Eladrin sages; however, destroyed this Fey crossing when they abandoned their city. With the spread of the Mutation, its now rumored that the forest is home to a fell crossing into the Shadowfell.
